Our chosen charity...

Enigma is proud to support the Anthony Nolan Trust as its chosen charity, as it is an organisation that, amongst helping thousands of people, saved the life of one of our ladies, Becs Shepheard.

Becs was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disease in Spring 2009 - a disease prevalent in elderly men - but as we keep saying, Enigma ladies are special! Due to the tireless work and research of ANT, a donor match was found for Becs and she underwent 2 transplants in Summer/Autumn 2009. She was back on the pitch - in body if not with skill - late in the 2009-10 season, and is working her way back to fitness. ANT undertake lifesaving research and matching services, and are focused on increasing their donor register. Testing to see if you are a suitable donor is easy - you spit in a pot and it is analysed - nothing could be simpler! And the donoating of stem cells is straight forward and non-invasive. Donors have the opportunity to give someone the gift of life whilst they are still alive themselves - a wonderful, wonderful opportunity.

We encourage everyone to sign up and register to help save lives. And Becs looks forward to meeting you on the pitch!

How we started...

From the seed of an idea sown at the end of 2002 season, developed over the summer by the committee, Lisa Morgan, Lizanne Muller, Eileen Hoare and Gerry Cronin, Enigma Ladies Hockey Club was registered with the 5 Counties league and we were in business!

The late Martyn Jackson introduced us to our sponsor and many of our Vice Presidents.

Once the word got round, players that we knew decided to come and join us, and after some publicity in the local paper, some new faces arrived on the scene.

We have grown but remain a small, friendly club.
